Ozone as an effective weapon in the fight against coronavirus 2019-nCoV.

Nowadays, the whole world is facing a pandemic that causes COVID-19. Information about the disease, possibilities of health protection, a large number of measures and possible treatments are now topic number 1. Disinfection is very important in the prevention, thus preventing the disease. In particular, compositions based on alcohol or chlorine are mentioned. However, ozone disinfection is less well known.

Ozone (O3) is a naturally occurring natural gas in small concentrations. For example, after the storm, we can feel its characteristic aroma (ozone – from the Greek word “ozein”, that “smell”). It has a very strong oxidizing ability and disinfecting effects. Due to its properties, for example, it is 3000 times more effective than chlorine. And also several times more effective than UV radiation (commonly used for air disinfection).

Its main advantages:

– when properly applied, it is able to kill most of the known bacteria, viruses, fungi, mites, allergens,… (for example, E-coli is up to 99.99% effective)
– does not leave any by-products of its action, does not contaminate the environment
– effectively removes unpleasant odors
– as gas penetrates to places where other disinfectants do not reach (corners, crevices, pores,…)

The inventor of E. W. von Siemens and Nikola Tesla also worked with the ozone generator more than 100 years ago. It turns out that ozone technology can be the right weapon to fight a pandemic right now and in the world today. There are more than 17 scientific studies showing that ozone gas is capable of destroying the SARS-CoV coronavirus (identified in 2003). Ozone disrupts the protective lipid layer of the virus, destroying it. And since the structure of coronavirus 2019-nCoV (new SARS-CoV-2) is almost identical to SARS-CoV, it is expected that ozone will effectively kill the new COVID-19 virus. The results showed that a high ozone concentration of 27.73 mg/l could inactivate the SARS virus in 4 minutes.

Right now it is appropriate to reflect on a highly efficient, environmentally friendly method of disinfection and to protect the health of ourselves, our loved ones, employees, customers… We all wish that we manage this difficult situation as best we can.
